4 Things That'll Ease Your Journey to Motherhood

About to become a new mum? There are a few things you’ll need to get hold of as soon as possible, then!

While the list of paraphernalia a new mum needs is massive, there are some items that are just more important (or more useful in lightening your load) than others.

Here, we’ll go over 4 of those items and what you should look for to make your life easier.

 1. High Chair

Not just any high chair, mind you: a good, sturdy, easy-to-clean high chair. Get one of these and it will be one of the best purchases of your life.

Fortunately, there are high chairs now that tick all of these boxes. One of our favourites, a piece from Hauck, can even be converted so it can be used at different stages of life, from toddlerhood to adulthood.

Just make sure that the high chair is also made of materials that can be cleaned easily. If a high chair can be wiped, for instance, that’s a major plus.

Babies are messy eaters and you’ll be glad for the ease of cleanup after mealtimes!

2. Stroller

As with the high chair, don’t just settle for any old model: look for a travel system if possible. Even if you don’t go out all that often with your baby, you probably will need to at some point, so it’s definitely better to be prepared.

A good travel-system stroller will make your life easier when it comes time to bring the baby to the doctor for a check-up. Or when you need to make a quick stop somewhere but don’t have anyone who can help babysit.

Because it’s a travel system, it will also make getting the baby in and out of the car easier. This is a lot of convenience out of a single purchase, and will make your trips out with your little one more enjoyable overall.

3. Maternity Pillow

This is something many mums recommend getting and using even before giving birth!

A maternity pillow is essentially a large pillow that supports your entire body (especially your belly) when you’re at rest. As such, some of these are so big that they look more like mini-mattresses than pillows!

The whole point of a Maternity Pillow is to make resting more comfortable for pregnant women. As your body changes and the baby grows, some things just become more troublesome, like turning over in bed and getting comfy enough to sleep.

Maternity pillows solve that problem. They can do a lot to help you get the rest you need so that your baby grows safely in your womb.

Some maternity pillows are multi-functional, and can be used as nursing pillows after your little one is born, for example.

4. Portable Breast Pump

Honestly, pumping breast milk is one of the most tedious chores you’ll have to face as a new mum. So why not take every convenience you can find when it comes to it?

Get a portable pump for the future so you won’t be stuck in the nursery as you express. Various hands-free and pretty-much-invisible options are now available. They’re usually silent and can be worn directly in your nursing bra, so you can even head out and run an errand or two while completing your pump!
